The Cleveland Browns have acquired running back
The 5-foot-8, 195-pound Lewis is in his third NFL season, and the 2011 fifth-round pick (No. 149 overall) of the Eagles rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries in Philadelphia. He also caught three passes for 21 yards, and returned 32 kickoffs for 702 yards, an average of 21.9 yards per return.
“Dion is a back who runs with very good quickness and vision,” Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said. “He is a promising young player who will add depth, which is extremely important at that position.”
Lewis, an Albany, N.Y., native spent two seasons at the University of Pittsburgh, where he rushed for 2,860 yards and finished fourth on the school’s all-time list. He also tallied the most100-yard rushing games, most yards rushing (1,799), most touchdowns (18), and most points scored (108) by a freshman in the Pittsburgh’s history. The previous record for the most 100-yard games was held by Pro Football Hall of Famer, Tony Dorsett.
Lewis set the mark for the most rushing yards in the first two years of a career (2,860), and tied for the sixth-longest run from scrimmage in school history with an 85-yard carry against Buffalo in 2009. He also rushed for 261 yards against Cincinnati in 2010, the seventh-best single-game total ever by a Panther.
“Dion had an extremely productive college career and responded well in his limited chances with the Eagles,” said Browns CEO Joe Banner. “We felt this would be a good opportunity for him and us, and we are happy that Dion is now a member of the Browns.”
Acho was drafted by the Browns with a compensatory selection in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft (No. 204 overall). He was placed on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending knee injury during the preseason.
